Owning the Night (Hunting the Dark Lord #4) by Ann Jacobs is a short erotic read. Ann Jacobs is able to pack so much detail in just a few paragraphs; it took just six chapters to delve into a world of cops, hunters, and vampires.    It’s part of a series, but you can definitely read it independently (like I did).

Alex is an ancient vampire who can read minds, compel, and disappear into the night. Mara is a mortal, cop, and vampire hunter, still mourning the “well-deserved” death of her vampire lover. They’re both on the hunt for Raynard, a vampire serial killer. Of course, there’s a lot of waiting for Raynard to wake, or for night to come, or something to happen, so during that time, it’s sexy time galore!

As with any Ann Jacobs’ book, this is some kinky erotica. There’s fun one-on-one sex, some sex with toys, some MMF (a little MM), some group action…a little fun for everyone.

My only complaint is that you get whiplash going from lust to love. I could understand Alex’s POV, he’s reading her mind and learning her thoughts makes a first encounter feel like a few years. She had to have a little more convincing, but not as much as I expected. In the end, I kept thinking of her as a vampire groupie with the quick change from ‘I will not fall for vampire charms’ to ‘Bite me!’ But then again, anyone meeting Alex might do the same.

Overall, it was a quick read and Ann Jacobs can pack in a big story in just a few words. It is definitely worth the hour or so to delve into it.
