Frozen by LA Casey was a fun and light-hearted holiday read. Perfect for a relaxing day off. It’s considered a “New Adult” read, so Darcy (hero) and Neala (heroine) are in their mid-20’s.

I was wary about the “Frozen” title because the movie “Frozen” was so popular. Shoot me, I have 2 nieces who were obsessed.  Until I read the description, I halfway expected a major Disney Frozen tie-in, which the synopsis quickly dispelled.

This is the opposite of Romeo of Juliet, instead of the families hating each other; they loved each other to the point of expecting the next generations to become best friends as well. Grandparents were best friends, then the mothers were best friends, even their older brothers are best friends. Now, as the seemingly only opposite sex offspring (other than Charli and Dustin who are like 5 years old), it seems the mothers were hoping that the two would fall in love and finally make these families go from besties to family. However, the two had a falling out 15 years ago from a schoolyard dispute and haven’t let it go since. (Ha! There IS a frozen theme…Let it go!) There was so much dislike/hate between the two, I genuinely did not know how the author was going to wrap them up.

This book reads like a romantic comedy movie. There was some physical comedy, wrestling, chasing one another, etc. Pranks and tits for tats going back and forth, as well as some history of their past pranks on one another. The scheming and meddling characters- seriously everyone is able to think of pranks in the book! – mixed in with the softer moments between Neala and Darcy, I easily read it all as if it was on screen. Don’t even start on the next generation of besties, Charli and Dustin, who were just too cute.

LA Casey did a good job in creating a world that had the dream family but still kept some elements of reality. The harsh realities of life (making rent, employment, economy) were mentioned but were not dwelled upon. To me, this touch reminded me that you can appreciate things in your life and that positivity can overshadow the negativities that can happen.

Overall, it was a fun read to just relax to. There’s no complex characters, no huge character developments, but just two people falling in love and their meddling family members.
